Does God Have Limits?

Sovereignty of God

There is a prevailing doctrine in the body of Christ today, because of which, many believers are dying spiritually and physically. That doctrine? “God is sovereign.” Before you email me, hear me out, lol. There is a dominate religious connotation that the body has attached to the word “Sovereign.” Many believers allude to the doctrine that nothing happens unless it is in God’s perfect will or His permissive will. Nothing. Unless we use Webster’s definition of sovereign [1], this is an erroneous teaching, when the Bible teaches otherwise.

It is this believer’s opinion that God gets blamed for many things He had nothing to with, in terms of causation. I contend that the phrase, “God is in control,” the body bandies about every day when a mishap, illness, or even death confronts them. They then attribute those events to God hoping to gain peace in their spirit. Believers blame God for many circumstances, ills, and even death. “Well, it must be God’s will.” God does NOT cause bad things to happen, neither does He cause death. God did not put a circle around your name. He knows when that day is, however, but He didn’t circle that date for your allotted time. You’re in the book of life [2], or you aren’t. Man is the one who started spiritual and physical death in the Garden of Eden, not God. Paul, in the Book of Hebrews [2] says,

v14 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil who had the power of death [Hebrews 2:14 NLT]. (Underline mine)

In my estimation, this is the worse doctrine in the body of Christ. It is damaging and ingrained in many believers. Believers are dying spiritually, emotionally, and physically because of this misconception and interpretation of “God is sovereign,” which to many means God is in total control of everything. I want you to thrive and fulfill your purpose in the Kingdom, and this doctrine will, minimum, stifle your progress. Please let me exhort you into going by the dictionary’s definition and cease from blaming God for the bad things happening in your life.

v8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: [1 Peter 5:8 KJV].

v8 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you [James 4:7 KJV].

I pray that this has helped you in this problem. I’d love to have your input. See you next Tuesday. God bless you all.

[3] Traditionally, scholars thought until recently, that Paul wrote the Book of Hebrews. However, since the third century they questioned this. The consensus among most modern scholars now say the author of the Hebrews is unknown. For this blog, I will choose Paul…
