2Talking to God

Part 2: Intimacy

“Can we have an intimate relationship with an infinite God?” That was my question while growing up because the church seemed to preach a limited one-way affiliation, God taking care of us. Oh, we were to love and serve God all right, but a relationship, c’mon. Therefore, I went through life loving God but treating Him like my holy butler—save me, heal me, deliver me, prosper me, and give me.

On the other hand, intimacy is a close and loving personal relationship with God. It is your destiny to have that intimate relationship with God. Intimacy requires a hunger. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says to seek God’s face and pray. Seeking God’s face is all about developing an intimate relationship with Him while in the wilderness.

v3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. [John 17:3 KJV]

Intimacy requires that we not just know about God, but we are to have intimacy with Him. Even the devil knows about God. Our knowing Him includes, of course, love, reverence, obedience, honor, gratitude, supreme affection. To know God is to know and regard him as a lawgiver, a sovereign, a parent, a friend. It is to yield the whole soul to him and strive to obey his law.

Colossians 3:1, 2 declares that If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. [1]. God is not our butler but a God full of love, grace, honor, and mercy. So, seek His face and have a hunger for Him. God first seeks and communicates to us through His Word [2] and we seek and communicate back to Him through the incense of our prayers [3].

Mark 12:30 Says it best: “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

Our Father, which art in heaven, hollowed be Thy name. I worship you God. I give you the honor, glory, and praise that you so rightly deserve. You are sovereign over everything because the earth is but your footstool. Lord, God, teach me to pray and be closer to you. That is my desire Lord. Thank you for the forgiveness of my sins. I am so sorry Lord for my disobedience to you. Your love for me Lord is a huge blessing and I am amazed that you even died for me while I was yet a sinner. Help me Lord to resist the enemy so that he might flee. In your precious name, AMEN.

How can we pray our heart without intimacy with God?

NOTE: And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples [4]. In the next few weeks, we will look at the Lord’s Prayer.
