Five Doctrines of the Christian Faith

The Cross, the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Part Six: Monotheism

Our fifth and final Christian doctrine is Monotheism or the belief that there is only one God. The first rule to remember about any belief system is that no theory can be proven. Without getting into a cosmological exposition and to make things simple for everyone, we Christians have one standard, and that is the Bible. We could also get into the moral argument, look at the nature of God, and even scrutinize history, but what we are left with, is the Bible. A case could be made for all four of the arguments above, but the size of this blog, constrains me. The Bible proving the Bible though probably seems a little empty but that is with what we are stuck.

Having said that and according to the Bible, there is but one true God, albeit in the three persons of the Trinity. I will cover that next week in “The Trinity.”

v5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
v6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. [1 Timothy 2:5, 6 KJV]

The enemy even believes in the power of our one true God, and we do a good thing if we believe that.

v19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. [James 2:19 KJV]

The Bible is replete with Scripture pertaining to a one true God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Lord Jesus, thank you for your Word that is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Thank you for loving me and for your grace, mercy, and redemption. You are the one true God, and I worship you my God and wonderful Savior. You are my fortress, my strength, my Rock, my refuge, and my hightower. You are my salvation and my Shepherd; I shall not want. I will trust in you with all my heart and will NOT lean unto my own understanding but will acknowledge you in all my ways, so you can guide my path. I give you praise, honor, and glory, in your precious name Lord, AMEN.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. [1]
