The Bridge of Life

One of Five: God’s Plan

Hoffman Covered Bridge

There are 8,052 bridges in the state of Oregon alone, 50 of them, covered. My oldest son, sister, my ex-wife and I toured eight of these covered bridges, a few years back, one of which was the Hoffman Covered Bridge, built in 1936 (pictured on the left). What a fun day; the company, a picnic and of course, he scenery. The Hoffman Bridge transverses the Crabtree Creek and spans some 90 feet [1]. Notwithstanding the beauty of the bridge, its purpose, as with any bridge, is still to get us to the other side. We can all agree on that function, but it is nice that we can do so in style.

It is the same with God’s plan for mankind. Christ is that bridge that spans the deep valley of the shadow of death [2], and gets us to the other side, the side of life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life [John 3:16 KJV].

He loves every one of us and wants us all to experience life, His peace, and His love. He is not willing that any should perish [3]. There is only one problem; and we’ll look at that next week in part two.

Lord God, thank you for your love, grace, mercy, and redemption. I pray for all those who haven’t yet crossed over the bridge and unto life. Lord, send the Holy Spirit to anoint those souls and share with them the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. In your precious name, amen.

God has a plan for you, plans to prosper you, give you hope, and a future [4].

  1. SO TRUE! Christ bridged the gap between us and our Father God, the source of abundant life!
I look forward to the other 3 parts.
“God has a plan for you, plans to prosper you, give you hope, and a future.” This scripture has been a struggle for me to believe in my own life. I know I am very blessed, for sure, and I have the certain hope of eternal life with Him after this life on earth, but I just wish I could know that He has a plan for me in THIS life.
