Three of Five: God’s Remedy?

The Cross!

It amazes me and according to Josephus, the priests sacrificed 256,500 Paschal lambs on the eve of Passover at the same time the Lamb of God hung on the Cross sacrificing Himself for the sins of mankind. It is my opinion that it would take a very calloused persons to slit the throats of quarter of a million lambs, but that’s just me. However, it was a holy thing and mandated in Leviticus 7 of God’s Word for a trespass (sin) sacrifice.

The Cross is the Bridge of life epitomizing the love of God and bridging the gap of separation between God and man [1]. When Christ died on the Cross and rose from the grave, He paid the penalty for all our sins [2].

v24 He Himself bore our sins, in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.
v25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. [1 Peter 2:24, 25 NIV]

Genesis 34:12 tells us of the bride price. There were three prices according to Jewish custom. Unlike the other two, the Mohar, was a mandatory price paid for a bride [3]. It was a high price showing her worth. Christ’s propitiatory sacrifice on the Cross not only redeemed our souls, but purchased us as His Bride. I would say that death is a mighty high price and tells us that we are worthy. Undeserving, but worthy, because Christ resides in us via the Holy Spirit. Christ first came as a Lamb. The next time He comes, He will come as the Lion of Judah.

Thank you, Lord, that you love us so much that you gave your life for us. Forgive me Lord for my sinfulness that the price you paid for me was so high. “I’m sorry and repent” just doesn’t seem to cut it Lord, given the price you paid. You died that I might live. Thank you for redeeming me and bridging the gap of separation between us and the Father. Nonetheless Lord, thank you for your love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness. I remain yours, AMEN.

How much do I love you? This much, and Christ spread His arms, and hung on the Cross.
