Just One Bite

Fallen man

She picked the fruit from the low-hanging branch, cupped it in her hands, and admired its beauty. The glare of the apple glistened at her as if possessed. My husband said not to eat of this tree, or I would die. Her thoughts ricocheted in her mind. How can anything so beautiful be so deadly? Just one bite. What could be the harm? Besides, my husband is here with me, and he is not saying anything. Eve smiled, shrugged, and brought the fruit to her lips. Eve did not die, as her husband had told her. So, she gave the fruit to her husband with her, and he also ate of the fruit. The rest is history.

v6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. [Genesis 3:6 KJV]
v16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. [1 John 2:16 KJV] [1]

Neither Adam nor Eve died. I believe this perplexed them because they did not die. However, they would find out what that one bite would cost them, for they would never know that they could have lived forever [2]. Although man’s life now became terminal, the death with which God concerned Himself was spiritual. Now, all of mankind would inherit this natural AND spiritual death because of the first Adam [3]. But praise the Lord God, all who believe in Him will live. However, to live, they must be reborn in spirit [4].

The take-away? Obeying God’s commands and precepts are life-giving and for our benefit. We deserve death because of the first Adam, but through the grace, mercy, and love of the second Adam, Jesus Christ, we can receive the gift of eternal life through Him. Adam and Eve were the only two people in world history who were perfect [5]. The Son of man was perfect, but He was also the Son of God.

You might ask, “How do I accept Christ and have an eternal life with Him?” I am glad you asked. Pray this with me:

Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and need a Savior. I believe you died for me and arose from the dead as recorded in the Scriptures. I choose to follow you. Please come into my life and give me rest, change me, and teach me your ways. In your precious name, Jesus, AMEN.

If you prayed that prayer, you are a believer and have access to the love, grace, and mercy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please tell someone of what you did. If you have no one to tell, it will honor me to hear your glorious news. Welcome to God’s kingdom. You are now my brother or sister.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the Good news that the Bible talks about.
