Talking to God

Praying handsPart Eleven: Eight Compound Names of God

Note: I found this in my blog cue. It was supposed to be number six. I apologize big time for getting it mixed up. I have many writing projects going at the same time and may have to postpone my blog for a spell until I get caught up. I really need to spend some quality time with the Lord. I WILL, of course finish this series on prayer first until I take a hiatus. I have three books to finish for the Lord and am far behind in this endeavor, esp given my packing and moving to another state. I will return but really need this time off. I strongly apologize. Please don’t give up on me. – Jim

Matthew 6:9b says “…Hallowed be Thy name.” Like we’ve learned, God has many names. Among those names are eight compound names all beginning with the word Jehovah. The name Jehovah designates God’s nature as he stands in relation to man, as the only almighty, true, personal, unchanging, eternal, self-existent God, the “I am that I am” [1].

v4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. [Psalms 100:4 KJV]

Psalms 100:4 instructs us to enter His presence with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. God does not need His ego boosted and praise is more for our benefit and not His, although He desires our adoration. We can enter His presence by virtue of the Blood of Jesus. We hallow His names, which point to the fulfillment in the person and work of Jesus Christ. His names reflect not only its meaning but the benefit of the corresponding name. Pray and praise the Lord to appropriate His promises. We praise God from the heart and not because we are trying to persuade, coerce, or flatter Him into getting what we want or need. Remember, God looks on the heart [2] and He knows what we want and need before we ask Him [3].

Name                     O.T.        N.T.            Meaning                  Promises
Jehovah-tsidkenu     / Jer 23:6 / 2 Cor 5:21  / Jehovah our righteousness / Forgiveness of Sin [SIN]
Jehovah-m’kaddesh / Lev 20:26 / 1 Cor 6:11 / Jehovah who sanctifies   /   Deliverance from Sin’s dominion
Jehovah-shalom      / Jud 6:24 /  2 Thes 3:16 / Jehovah is peace  /   Fullness of the Holy Spirit [SPIRIT]
Jehovah-shammah  / Eze 48:35 / 1 Cor 3:16  / Jehovah is there /  Fullness of the Holy Spirit
Jehovah-rophe       / Isa 53:5 /  1 Pet 2:24  /  Jehovah heals Health and healing [SOUNDNESS]
Jehovah-jireh         / Deut 28:1-4  / Php 4:13  / Jehovah my provider /  Freedom from curse of Law [SUCCESS]
Jehovah-nissi         / Isa 11:10 /  Rom 1:3   /  Jehovah my banner /  Freedom from fear of death and hell [SECURITY]
Jehovah-rohi          / Psa 23:1, 4, 6  /  Joh 10:27, 28 / Jehovah my shepherd /  Dwell in the house of the Lord forever

In Exodus 6:3, 4, God links His name Jehovah to His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The eight compound names of God in the Old Testament also correspond with the five-fold promise He makes to His people in the New Testament. Thank you, Jesus.

My Father which is in heaven, hallowed be your name. I thank you for your righteousness given me by the Blood of your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank you that through His Blood you have set me apart from the world. Thank you, Lord, for your peace that passes all understanding and that you are there whenever I need you. Thanks for your healing touch and presence. Thank you for your deliverance. Lord, I praise you that you have removed my fear of death and hell. To be absent of the body is to be in your presence and knowing that I will dwell with you forever. In your precious and glorious name, AMEN.

The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want [4].
