I interrupt our Talking to God series to give you some COVID-19 information. I have some links at the bottom that might help you in this time. In the meantime, there are some things you can do to protect yourself like: wash your hands frequently with soap for 20 seconds, use hand sanitizer when you can’t wash your hands (must be >60% alcohol), stay home if you’re sick, ask for a local COVID-19 test if you think you have the flu (the symptoms of this one are a fever and a dry cough), observe strict quarantine rules if you test positive. The Talking to God series will resume next Monday.
COVID-19 is serious but is it worth all the hype and panic? The sad part of all this are those 61 citizens who lost their lives to the Coronavirus. My heart goes out to them. Most of these folks were elderly with existing health problems. There are those among us who are yet vulnerable. Those who are most at risk are the elderly, 70 plus, with existing respiratory problems. Folks under 50 can carry the virus but are not in danger of loss of life. Because of the young immune system.
The “stupid virus” is making its way through the lame stream media quickly with dangerous, false, and irresponsible reporting. They are inflaming the public into panic mode. I am sure that it is ALL geared toward the dislike and hate of Trump. What with the hoax impeachment, Jim Acosta’s ridicule of Trumps calling the virus a Wuhan virus or foreign virus, which is exactly what it is, and the misinformation on Joy Reed’s accusing Trump of calling the virus a hoax. Trump never said that – EVER. This has been debunked. The lame stream media is not here to help us folks, but are here to foster chaos and hurt President Trump. Period.
I went to Albany, Oregon Costco this last Wednesday, to get a tax print-out and couldn’t hardly weave in and out of ALL the FULL baskets waiting at the six or seven registers. Those lines were backed up 20-30 feet into the aisles. I could not believe it. I talked to someone who went a little later and they said the lines were backed up into the meat section. Un-n-n-believable. The panic buyers were out in force. C’mon people we’re Americans. What has happened to us? Geez! (The media has happened and still is happening.)
Now America is shutting down. WHAT! Don’t get me wrong, COVID-19 is very serious but let’s put this into perspective. On one hand, sixty-one people have died due to COVID-19, with 3000 reported cases and America is shutting down? I mean schools, churches, restaurants, airports, supermarkets. On the other hand, there were twenty-two million confirmed cases of Swine flu reported with 4000 deaths attributed to the H1N1 flu. Not one business shut down, as far as my research has found. Each year 36K citizens die of the flu and hospitalizes more than 200,000 citizens, costing the USA economy $10 billion in medical and productivity costs, but America races on. So, what’s the deal? Is it a Machiavellian ploy? Never let a good crisis go to waste. I certainly hope not. I’m NOT a conspiratorialist, but a guy must wonder.
Please believe me, I’m NOT making light of these poor folk’s death, but are we over-reacting? My heart goes out to them and their families. I can’t fathom what they must be going through. We should prepare ourselves and take things seriously but shutting down America? C’mon! See the links below.
This is the time we Christians can shine and draw people to Christ. The Internet is a good place to start and finding people to help. Let’s be part of the solution and not part of the problem. What about Online Bible studies while watching an Online service, with each bringing an unsaved person. Do we know of any elderly people who could use a meal? Bring them food and if necessary, cook for them. What about a message of hope to those who are panicking and maybe are despondent and afraid? Look to family and our elderly and give them comfort and the Gospel. The prayer of hope and life can heal a wounded soul. People look to the church in a time of crisis. Let’s be there for them.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” [2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV]
Lord Jesus, I lift those families who have lost loved ones due to this new virus. Heal those who have contracted the virus and make them well. I lift America to you Lord in her plight. Heal our land and give strength to those who worry and are afraid. Bring people into their lives who can give the message of hope through you Lord. You ARE the solution. You ARE the answer. You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Lord, we need you. We call on you and humble ourselves in your presence. You are our hope and strength in the time of trouble. We love you and worship you and ask this all in your precious name, AMEN.
