DNA, or Deoxyribonucleic acid, is the building block of life. These molecules contain a genetic code of biological development in every human on Earth who has ever lived [1]. It dictates specific traits like stature, skin and hair color, eye color, some body features, and what an individual will look like to how long it is likely to live. Basically, everything there is about us.

The complete human genome is made up of about three billion DNA molecules [2]. They are twisted and coiled up into chromosomes in the nucleus of a cell. The molecules are shaped like a ladder and geneticist’ call them a double helix. Every cell contains 46 linear chromosomes. These chromosomes are known as autosomes. Twenty-two are similar in size, shape and genetic content. The 23rd pair is known as a sex chromosome [3].

Our human DNA dictates who we are, physically, mentally, and emotionally. In 1997 I was in attendance at the 23rd annual Morris Cerullo World Conference. Pastor Cerullo told the audience something that I have never forgotten. He said that, “All truth is parallel. For every natural truth, there is an equal and corresponding spiritual truth.”

v22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
v23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
v24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. [Ephesians 4:22-24 KJV]

v17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. [1 Corinthians 6:17 KJV]

v17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. [2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV]

v1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
v2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. [Romans 12:1-2 KJV]

The phrase “Spiritual DNA” talks about the new nature that you receive from God when you are born again. Becoming “one spirit” is metaphorical and not to be taken literally [4]. It is “one in spirit,” not “one with Him [5].” It is similar to that in which a man and his wife become one body in a natural consummation. The sense is, that there is a close and intimate spiritual union (the melding between our spirit and Christs’). Our spirits are united in feeling, spirit, intention, and disposition.

When we are spiritually joined to Christ through our acceptance of His salvation, we put off the old man, and put on the new man [6] and become a new creature [7]. Then with our reasonable service to the best of our ability [8] and with a hunger for God, we submit to God, and resist the Devil [9]. Our eventual spiritual DNA will change, and we will transform into His likeness.

In the same way that technology grows for geneticists to give more accurate DNA results, so does the constant aligning of our souls with our spirit. It gives way to growth in the Lord and our transformation to expand our character and nature to the renewing of our minds.
